Data Types

Managed Dynamic Data can communicate with a wide range of data storage methods including databases, spreadsheets and text delimited files. However a proviso is that the data type is supported by a suitable DSN driver. A DSN is a software component installed on the client system which provides a conduit into the data itself from other applications including the Managed Dynamic Data service. We can advise you if your data type is supported on request or you could ask your supplier if an ODBC compliant Driver is available.

Typical data applications supported include:

Microsoft Access
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft SQL Server
Microsoft MSDE
mySQL
dBase
FoxPro
ODBC for Oracle
CSV Text Delimited Files
ODBC compliant Drivers

Connection

Managed Dynamic Data constantly monitors the DSN on the client end for events or triggers in the data and requires a continuous Internet connection. It is imperative therefore that the client has an 'always-on' Internet connection such as Broadband, ISDN or Leased Line. Dial-up connect-on-demand connections are not suitable.

Firewall

Managed Dynamic Data is designed to be configured to operate with a client firewall. Secure Authentication must be configured on the client side and access granted to the IP address of the Managed Dynamic Data server. Of course Managed Dynamic Data will operate in the absence of a firewall at the client end but it is strongly advised that a firewall be configured to protect the client network from intrusion.
