The web portals can either be hosted by Tidy Data Solution or on your own hosting service. The web portals simply need access to the data source to interrogate it accordingly. It must be noted it is the server hosting the web portal that interrogates the relevant data source and not the client machine.

Connection
The hosting server connects to your data through a pre-configured DSN (Data Source Name); it would be necessary to configure the database server to allow the web server access to the relevant data. This is carried out over the Internet and is transparent to your network.

For this connection to be effective you must have an "always-on" Internet connection such as broadband or leased line and a known (fixed) Internet IP address that does not change, as the hosting server will always attempt to connect to this address. If your connection is currently a dynamic address, which can change each time you connect, you will need to talk to your ISP to obtain a fixed address.
